Are You Currently Serving in the Peace Corps? Print E-mail

If you are currently serving in the Peace Corps, you are surely talking to everyone about the US elections.  And this year there is even more to talk about with Barack Obama in the running.
Of course the Peace Corps organization has to be non-partisan.  But that doesn’t mean that you have to.  As Americans you can do your part to participate in this great election season, even from a distance.

What kinds of things can you do?

  1. Register to Vote.  While it isn’t easy to do from so far away, it is possible to register from anywhere.  If you have internet access (which is pretty safe to assume since you are reading this…) you can go to the Rock The Vote site by clicking on the image on the right.  This is the first step.
  2. Get Your Absentee Ballot.  There is a great internet site called Overseas Vote Foundation at  https://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/overseas/home.htm.  From there you can get instructions on how to get an absentee ballot for your specific state.  Each state makes it a little bit different, but they spell things out well.  The most important thing is to do it quickly since the deadlines will be quickly approaching and you have to send things via postal mail.  Check out their video below for more information.
  3. Talk to Your Friends.  Ok, not everyone serving in the Peace Corps is going to be an Obama supporter.  But there are going to be a lot more of you than the ones who will make the extra effort to vote for John McCain.  Let them know how you feel and give them this information on how to register and get their absentee ballots.
  4. Signup on RPCVSForObama.com.  Make sure you register on this site, fill out your information, and check out the other members.  You might find others who served in the same country and they could be a great resource if questions come up.  And let us know how many other Peace Corps Volunteers you are getting to vote for Obama and list them as your Pledged Voters.

Remember: EVERY VOTE COUNTS.  We cannot afford another 4 years of Bush-like policies.  It is up to all of us to make sure we don’t make the same mistake for the third time in a row!
