If there are over 190,000 Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, I will bet that at least 10,000 are interested - even passionate - about electing Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.  And if each RPCV got 10 voters each to go to the polls in November for Barack, that would add up to 100,000 votes!

Okay, does that even make a difference?  No one needs to be reminded about the events of the 2000 election where only a handful of votes in Florida put George Bush in the White House. Along with the help of the Supreme Court...

But even in the 2004 Presidential election, if 38,000 voters in three states - New Mexico, Iowa, and Nevada had not stayed home but voted for Kerry the electoral college vote would have been tied at 269 votes apiece.  And if 100,000 voters in Colorado or 120,000 voters in Ohio had voted for Kerry, he would be President today.

The bottom line is that we elect a President with a razor thin margin in many elections.  So 100,000 votes are very very important.

Another way to look at it is which states have the most impact in the Presidential Elections.  Check out this representation of spending and visits by Kerry and Bush in the last five weeks of the 2004 race:

2004 Dollars By State for Presidential Election

Visits by Presidential Candidates in 2004

So if you know people in these states, they are probably even more important to talk with.
