Welcome to RPCVs For Obama
The most important goal now is to increase votes for Obama in VA |
At this time, Washington area RPCVs and staff at the Obama Campaign in VA agree that the most important goal now is to increase votes for Obama in VA - a swing state - and to convince voters of why they should vote for Obama. We have decided to focus our energies in VArather than organize a rally at The U. S. Capitol.
RPCVs want to focus in VA on ISSUES vis a vis McCain's platform, i. e. foreign policy, community service, and environment.
A liaison has been formed between RPCVs in the Washington, DC area and the Foreign Policy Professionals for Obama www.foreignpolicyforobama.com - a network to inform voters on Obama's foreign policy and to get out the vote for Obama in VA. It is an excellent vehicle for RPCVS in the Washington, DC area. A wide range of professionals from many walks of life are involved. If interested, please email the co-founder:

A group of RPCVs who are experts in environment and energy are interested in campaigning in VA: press coverage and a "town meeting" on environment...radio talk show, local newspaper articles... need to get a VA contingent representing military, environment, security, economic development - and create signs and images - maybe a press conference. If interested, please contact:

McCain, Obama find common ground on national service |
WASHINGTON (CNN)-- Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama showed Thursday night that they have more common ground than differences when it comes to making national service a priority in their presidential administrations.
The presidential canidates put aside partisan politics as the nation remembers the terrorist attacks.
The presidential candidates took the stage separately in a forum sponsored by TIME at Columbia University in New York.
A coin toss determined who took questions first from moderators TIME Managing Editor Rick Stengel and PBS's Judy Woodruff.
Asked why it seems the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, are "fading" in the minds of many Americans, McCain said:
"We needed at that time [September 11, 2001] to take advantage of the unity in the United States of America."
McCaincriticized the Bush administration for not taking advantage of that sense of unity and instead imploring the American public to live their lives as usual and "go shopping."
"I would have called them to serve," said McCain.
The GOP candidate said he suspects people feel uninspired by leaders in Washington and that Americans want "change" in federal government.
"They understand the challenges that we have in this world. They see the Russian invasion of the little country called Georgia. They see the problems in Afghanistan growing larger. They see a whole lot of things happening in the world that's going to require us to serve, and that opportunity has to be provided to them."

Bonnie Jean Campbell, 57, says she toyed with the idea of joining the Peace Corps in her youth. Instead, she had children and a busy job as a research librarian.
Her children are now grown, and Campbell, of Port Huron, Mich., is packing to leave for Azerbaijan on Sept. 20.
"I wasn't sitting around waiting to join," said Campbell, who owns a consulting firm. "But about a year ago, I started thinking about it. Now, it's my turn."
